Kelly Saito finds his place on the list as one of three “Building Giants” for developing “tricked-out apartments” during Boston’s biggest real estate boom in decades.
Boston’s apartment market hasn’t always offered much in the way of modern comforts. Kelly, alongside the Gerding Edlen team, has made a big bet that Boston’s renters want something new. This means building hundreds of apartments with efficient layouts, energy-saving electric and heating equipment and amenities ranging from outdoor firepits to yoga lounges and dog parks.
“We’ve adopted a goal of trying to make buildings that are not just better for tenants but also for their neighborhoods," says Kelly. “Our challenge, and our opportunity, is to make cities attractive to people and build a product that serves them.”
