Gerding Edlen Launches Sustainable Solutions
Jul 07, 2008
portland, or– Gerding Edlen Development has established Gerding Edlen Sustainable Solutions, a new consulting and infrastructure development firm with the mission of helping organizations operate and build more sustainably.
“As a developer, Gerding Edlen has had the opportunity to explore and advance green building practices, innovations in renewable energy and water conservation, and our own sustainable business operations. As proud as we are of the impact of our work, we realize there’s a bigger role for us in reducing our collective environmental footprint,” said Dennis Wilde, principal at Gerding Edlen and leader of the Renewable Energy & Infrastructure division of Gerding Edlen Sustainable Solutions. “Our motivation is to shift industry and society to a more sustainable place by helping business leaders develop financially feasible, market-driven strategies that deliver real returns.”
Gerding Edlen Sustainable Solutions has three divisions:
- Sustainability Planning helps organizations explore and adopt business strategies that deliver triple-bottom-line returns. This division will work with companies in all sectors who wish to make the move toward a more sustainable future.
- Built Environment moves new and existing buildings toward sustainability using cost-effective green building strategies and proven best practices.
- Renewable Energy & Infrastructure creates, installs, operates and develops financial strategies for efficient energy generation, water re-use and waste treatment.
Gerding Edlen Sustainable Solutions will operate as a separate business entity supported by the entire Gerding Edlen Development staff. In its 12-year history, Gerding Edlen has embarked on more LEED projects than any other developer in the country, including the first Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) platinum historic renovation (the Gerding Theater), Los Angeles’s first green neighborhood (South Park, with Williams & Dame), the nation’s greenest condominium (The Casey), and the most innovative medical arts building in the nation (OHSU’s Center for Health and Healing).
“This is an extension of what we’ve done for a long time—acting as a general contractor of sorts, managing green building projects with and for our partners,” said Renee Worme, sustainability manager at GED and leader of the Built Environment division.
“Now we’ll apply our experience in sustainable development to help other new and existing local, national and international projects reach their greatest potential, whether the goal is LEED certification, energy efficiency or environmental stewardship.”
Along with the new company, Gerding Edlen announces the addition of Joe Vaughn to the team, as leader of the Sustainability Planning division of Gerding Edlen Sustainable Solutions. With 17 years working in process management and marketing in Portland, Oregon, and Seattle, Washington, Vaughn has a wide range of experience in advancing sustainable business practices across industries.
“I’m honored to join the Gerding Edlen team. I’ve admired their comprehensive approach to sustainable development that focuses equally on the environmental, social and economic impact,” said Vaughn. “Through Sustainability Planning, I hope to bring that same systems approach to other businesses, developing strategies that make sense for their triple-bottom-line.”
