Gov. Ted Kulongoski, D-Ore., has signed Executive Order 08-26, which creates the Oregon Energy Planning Council. The creation of the council follows the governor's Energy Summit held in August. The 11-member council is charged with providing proactive analysis, advice and assistance on energy planning.
"Demands on Oregon's energy supply are going to increase in the future, whether it's from a growing population or a growing economy," says Kulongoski said. "We have set Oregon on a path to a renewable energy future but also need to make sure we address stability and supply concerns (cont)

Environmental Design and Construction, 12.2.08
by Dennis Wilde
When Gerding Edlen Development began to focus on green building 10 years ago, many of our peers thought we were wasting money and time — that sustainable development was a fad with little chance of being profitable.
We had a different view, believing we could create buildings that retain their value, conserve resources, are more hospitable to their residents, and have less impact on the earth.
Today, 39 LEED projects later, our once revolutionary vision is becoming standard, and many of the early naysayers now see sustainable development as a smart business decision.

Almost no one cared about sustainable property development when Bob Gerding '61, M.5. '63,Ph.D.'67, and Mark Edlen '75, M.B.A. '76, formed their company. Now they're the LEED-ers of the pack.
GREEN. It's the color of the day. It's the color of the sustainability movement. It's the color of money. And whether you're all about the biosphere or all about the Benjamins, only the most fervent antidevelopment types would refuse to salute the green flag of Gerding Edlen Development, who, according to the US Green Building Council, have developed more Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED)-certifled buildings than anyone in America.

It may seem like the worst time for a new condominium building to hit the market, but developers behind the new 24-story Evo tower at 1155 S. Grand St. in downtown Los Angeles this month are moving forward with a strategy that includes playing to the eco-consciousness of prospective buyers.
The building, representatives say, is on track to receive a silver LEED rating from the U.S. Green Building Council's Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design program.

Despite the current--and nauseating--seesawing of our financial markets, real estate development marches on, brave little soldier that it is. And Evo South, that 311-unit tower rising in South Park is nearly done (the building received its certificate of occupancy) and will open its doors for a big broker party tonight. This is developer South Group's third building in South Park (and its most expensive given the higherend finishes); about 30 percent of the building's units are in escrow.

Think you’ve got a tough job?
