Bullseye Glass and LEED Platinum in a Quarter-Block
A lot of people thought it wasn’t possible to develop this quarter-block site located in downtown Portland’s Pearl District. We saw it as an opportunity to create an unprecedented level of living in a thriving 24-hour neighborhood. The Casey, a 16-story residential building with 61 urban homes in downtown Portland, will be both luxurious and conscientious. The Pearl District is an art-rich neighborhood, so we decided to integrate art that would be visible to the entire neighborhood into the architecture of the building. We collaborated with neighboring Bullseye Glass and several artists to create a multi-faceted glass art installation featuring a textured art glass spire extending from the second floor to above the rooftop. This aforementioned art can be enjoyed from the street and by residents from the building lobby, which combines warm colors with a clean, crisp and contemporary feel. We believe that the Casey is the most sustainably built residential building in the U.S. (as of 2006) and was the first condominium project in the US to receive LEED Platinum Certification from the USGBC. Solar panels generate renewable energy on-site, and an ecoroof aids in stormwater management.
