A Challenging, LEED Gold Public/Private Project

From the outset of the Maseeh College of Engineering and Computer Science building project, we knew we faced tough challenges. The school had to be built onto an existing, operating garage and classroom, both of which were kept open during construction. We also wanted the building to be as sustainable as possible. Working with PSU in a successful public/private partnership, we devised innovative solutions to create a well-designed, mixed-use, sustainable center of learning.

In keeping with our commitment to supporting schools in communities and our belief that PSU is critical to the healthy, robust development of the region, we donated our development services and the project site to the school. The project includes classrooms, offices, laboratory space and ground level retail space, which helps to integrate the school and the community.

The project received Gold LEED certification and features unique geothermal and mechanical operating systems. A ground-source heat pump/chiller, rainwater harvesting system and waterless urinals are among the building’s sustainable features. Special attention was paid to a design that allows as much daylight and natural light as possible into the building, conserving energy and improving quality of life for students and professors.

The new facility and resources at PSU’s School of Engineering enhance the school’s ability to continue attracting outstanding faculty, ensuring that students receive a first-class education.
