Xavier and Emme have been selected for the 2018 Greenbuild tours

EMME was selected to be a part of the “Green Roofs – Making Farm-to-Table Accessible” tour

Gerding Edlen is pleased to announce that Xavier, a Green Cities II property, and EMME, a Green Cities III property, have been selected for the prestigious 2018 Greenbuild tours.

Xavier and EMME were selected as national examples of highly sustainable multi-family buildings that push the envelope in categories such as tenant engagement and urban agriculture.

Xavier, a 240-unit, LEED Gold mixed-use property with 4,500 sq. ft. of retail, was selected to be a part of the "Urban Revitalization: Engaging Residents and Communities" Greenbuild tour. The property, which has been operating since 2015, is an exemplary representation of Gerding Edlen's commitment to tenant engagement. From 2016-2017, Gerding Edlen, in partnership with the local utility company, launched an Eco-Concierge program that – like a hotel concierge – was a resource for tenants, where they could come to get additional information or answers to questions about sustainable best practices.

EMME, a 199-unit, LEED Gold mixed-use property with 3,200 sq. ft. of retail, was selected for the “Green Roofs – Making Farm-to-Table Accessible” Greenbuild tour. EMME, which completed construction in September 2017, is highly sustainable and features two urban vegetable and fruit gardens, totaling approximately 8,000 sq. ft. The gardens are grown and maintained by The Roof Crop—a local urban farming organization that grows clean, responsibly grown produce in urban settings and delivers it to Chicago residents and commercial restaurants with minimal environmental impact. In addition to maintaining EMME’s urban agriculture, The Roof Crop offers CSA (Community Supported Agriculture) packages to residents and curates community events for residents throughout the year.

Located on the third-floor deck is a 3,000-sq.ft. vegetable and fruit garden (left). The second garden is 5,000 sq. ft. and is located on the rooftop (right).

Greenbuild is a program of Greenbuild International Conference and Expo. Hosted annually by the U.S. Green Building Council, Greenbuild is the world’s largest conference dedicated to sustainability in the built environment with over 200 sessions, tours, workshops and summits for industry professionals. The 2018 Greenbuild Tours will take place Nov. 12-16 in Chicago, IL. EMME will be toured on Monday, November 12 and Xavier will be toured on Friday, November 16.  For more information, please contact Gerding Edlen’s Director of Sustainability, Renee Loveland – renee.loveland@gerdingedlen.com.
